Unlocking Minds: The Transformative Power of Reading

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I often felt lonely and quickly grew bored with activities like watching movies and sketching. However, I discovered a passion for reading, which has since become a beloved pastime.

Reading an engrossing, mind-twisting book with dynamic characters and mind-blowing plot twists brought—and still brings—me indescribable comfort, especially during times when I struggle to stay interested in studying. The little boost I get from reading each day made me think about the various ways reading can benefit mental health, especially for young people. Reading is a relatively inexpensive and accessible hobby that offers tremendous benefits.

Mental Health Benefits of Reading

Last year, I began reading more consistently, and it has undoubtedly played a significant role in helping me cope with feelings of anxiety and nervousness. It provides a welcome escape from moments of anxious overthinking. Pairing a good book with a cup of hot or cold coffee makes the experience even more delightful.

Many people fail to see reading as a form of self-care. They may think back to the dull novels they were forced to read in school or feel too drained after a full day of work or classes to pick up a book. I hope to inspire people to view reading as a way to support their mental well-being. Reading offers fun and engaging entertainment while calming and strengthening mental and emotional health.
